Oak Trees & Ice Cream

Hello, everyone, I hope you're having a wonderful day. Welcome to the second post in my little Honeymoon Retrospect series. Our second and third day in Charleston was all about exploring. This was the first time Denis and I had been to Charleston and we didn't want to waste a second. So after a delicious breakfast at the hotel we loaded up the truck and hit the road. Our first stop was the Angel Oak Tree of Johns Island. I'd read about the tree online and it was such a beautiful day we knew it would be worth checking out. And we definitely weren't disappointed.

Along the way we stumbled upon a beautiful church and stopped so I could take some pictures. This church is the first thing you'll pass if you're going to the Angel Oak.

To get to the tree you have go down a lane. I remember telling Denis as we drove down it how this reminded me of a Nicholas Sparks novel. When we finally arrived we were amazed at the sheer size of the branches. It was definitely worth the drive. And we weren't the only ones who'd driven out there to see it. People from all over the country were there, taking pictures and such.

Quick Facts about the Angel Oak Tree - it's older than 400-500 years old, stands 66.5 feet tall, thought to be one of the oldest living things in the country.

After admiring the tree we headed back across the bridge to Charleston and decided to check out downtown. Downtown Charleston is one of the prettiest places in the world to me. It has a relaxing, casual vibe that's rare and hard to find in today's fast-paced society. Parking was easy to find at the time of year we went (Memorial Day weekend) and everything we wanted to see was in walking distance so we hit the sidewalks.

This theater was actually in the movie "The Notebook." So as you can imagine (being the movie lover that I am) I geeked out the moment we came upon it. I told Denis that if I felt like we were in the movie surrounded by some of the locations. He said, "I'll be the Noah to your Allie," and we laughed.

We went to Charleston in the summer time, so you can imagine our happiness to see an ice cream shop. And not just any ice cream shop - Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream Scoop Shop. The people here were really nice and the ice cream was awesome.
